• 5 Keys To Health

  • 5 keys to health

Health is not merely an absence of disease. To be healthy, these 5 keys to health must be considered.

    1. Healthy Nervous, Respiratory & Vascular System

Chiropractic adjustments, proper posture, and decreased drug use all contribute to having a healthy nervous, respiratory, and vascular system.

Firstly, chiropractic adjustments allow chiropractors to focus on restoring and maintaining the health of your joints, muscles, and nerves. A spinal or extremity adjustment can result in a renewed sense of vitality by restoring normal movement, relieving pain, and stimulating the improved function of your brain and nervous system.

Secondly, according to the American Journal of Pain Management, 1994, posture affects and regulates spinal pain, headaches, mood, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, sympathetic function, homeostasis, autonomic regulation, breathing, and hormone production. Did you know proper posture is vital to so many aspects of one’s physical well-being? Goes to show you that posture is important!

Lastly, decreased drug use contributes to having a healthy nervous, respiratory, and vascular system. The fewer medication and drugs one is taking, that are not deemed necessary or prescribed by a doctor, the better.

    2. Positive Mental Attitude

A positive mental attitude is so important these days and is the second of the 5 keys to health. Choose happiness and take time to relax. The current world is filled with countless stressors, and it’s our job to keep our stress levels in check. Decrease stress, and you’re bound for a longer, healthier life.

    3. Exercise

When unlocking the keys to health, exercise is critical! Some highly recommended activities include cardiovascular and weight training, as well as stretching. Here’s what we suggest:

    • Cardiovascular Training: 3-5 times per week (minimum 20 continuous minutes)
    • Weight Training: 3 times per week
    • Stretching: daily

Breathing well and getting enough oxygen is also an important factor. From 35-60 years of age, your oxygen uptake decreases by 35%. Take 5-10 deep breaths every hour to enhance your breathing and calm your nerves. If dizzy or light-headed from these deep breaths, stop. When exercising, it’s important to keep in mind your abilities and any health conditions you may have.

    4. Sleep

Sleeping 7-8 hours per night is optimal. The body heals, repairs, & grows during this resting period. The body is able to recover from injuries, and the immune system is boosted, by taking time to rest.

    5. Nutrition

Nutrition is the final of the keys to health. The body is designed for raw foods: nuts, grains, fruits, vegetables, & a protein source. In addition to eating the aforementioned food (and always in moderation), staying hydrated by drinking water is vital. You should drink 40% of your body weight in ounces per day. With 70-90% of your body being comprised of water, staying hydrated is simply a way to be responsible for your health.
