Sports injuries? See your chiropractor! Chiropractors can help treat and prevent injuries related to sports. They are skilled at adjustment of the spine and the extremities ensuring that the bones are aligned and soft tissue can heal properly. The main reasons athletes suffer sports injuries include forceful impacts, repetitive motions, over-training, and failure to warm up properly. Chiropractors can help athletes by relieving their pain and helping them heal faster after an injury. Regular visits will promote quicker recovery after games and training as well as better balance and overall performance.

    Common sports injuries we treat

    • Shoulder injuries: typically rotator cuff strain or sprains, shoulder impingement, bursitis, and tendonitis. They most often occur in athletes who play baseball, volleyball, golf, or swimmers
    • Knee injuries: These problems often arise due to repetitive use. Chiropractors commonly see soccer and football players or runners who are experiencing knee pain. Conditions we treat include patelofemoral syndrome (runner’s knee), patellar tendonitis (jumper’s knee), ITB syndrome, minor meniscus tears, and knee sprais and strains
    • Low back and hip injuries: These injuries can arise from sports or from gradual wear and tear.  They can arise from repetitive use, commonly, running or cycling. We treat lower back sprain/strains, disc herniations, sciatica, iliapsoas tendinitis, hip bursitis, labral tears, femoroalacetabular impingement (FAI)
    • Elbow injuries: Most commonly due to repetative use in baseball, tennis, and golf. We treat tennis elbow (lateral epicondilitis), golfer’s elbow (medial epicondilitis), flexor tendinitis, sprain and strains of the elbow.

    Our treatment methods

Athletic injuries may cause significant pain and debilitation taking you away from the sports that you enjoy. Our chiropractors can successfully treat athletic injuries without surgery. Our conservative treatment includes:

Chiropractic adjustment of the spine and the extremities. Adjustments release pressure in the joint and relax the muscle so that the joint stays aligned and works as it is supposed to. During the adjustment, CO2 gas escapes the joint cavity, you hear a crack, the pressure in the joint decreases, and mobility is restored.

Soft tissue work is always a part of every visit to our office. We practice Active Release Technique (ART), Graston, myofascial release, and therapeutic massage to realign muscle fibers, relieve spasms and trigger points, and increase circulation, so the muscles can support the adjustment and hold alignment.

Deep Tissue electrical stimulation. Other things will be incorporated to treat sports-related injuries such as ice, heat, and sometimes electrical stimulation. This type of electrical stimulation affects the muscles and helps to relieve tension and pain.

    Exercise rehabilitation for sports injuries.

Hopefully, this information is useful when looking into treatment for sports-related injuries. It is very important to stretch properly as to not incur one of these injuries yourself.
