    Graston Technique

A chiropractor takes pride in providing the natural approach to medicine, helping patients with their aches and pain without using medication and still being able to reach their health objectives. The basic principle of this profession is on the premise of realigning the body and allowing it to heal without the use of medication. It is the chiropractor’s responsibility to use specialized techniques to facilitate the body’s natural healing.

    The Spine

The nervous system is what controls the organs and cells in the body. The chiropractor puts more emphasis on the spine, making sure that it is aligned properly, even if it means shifting the spine to its original alignment or form. The usual chiropractic treatment for low back pain will span up to ten chiropractor visits within several weeks. With manual therapy, medication is not necessary.

    The Tools

There are six main tools that the chiropractor uses with Graston method. The features of these tools are:

    • Stainless steel
    • Round edges and convex shape
    • Dull instruments
    • Concave shape

The chiropractor uses these kinds of instruments for scanning and detecting any injured tissues. Once the injured area is inspected, a diagnosis is made and the chiropractor will initiate treatment.

    The Treatment

The chiropractor will administer treatment using the kinetic chain. Therefore, the patient who has back pain may have treatment administered to the abdomen, shoulders, hip flexors, hamstrings, or other remote areas of the body that are linked to the fascial network.

    The Graston Technique Massage

Tiny amounts of trauma are re-introduced to the injured area by use of a cross friction massage of rubbing and brushing the scar tissue’s grain. This is known as the Graston Technique massage. Sometimes, this process may result in inflammation. However, it is this technique that initiates and encourages the healing process of the injured soft tissues.

    What to Expect

If you are a chiropractic patient and you are experiencing this kind of Graston Technique therapy, you should expect to do some type of cardio activity for five minutes as your doctor will advise you. You must do this before the chiropractor appointment. You could use a treadmill or stationary bike for five minutes. At the chiropractor’s office, you may have to get an ultrasound done or even the application of heat treatment to the injured area so the soft tissue can be warmed up.

    During Graston Method

During the treatment, the chiropractor will use instruments for scanning and treating the area. A stainless steel instrument is used for calculated and specific massage procedures. This type of treatment will typically last for up to sixty seconds for each treated area. You may feel a little discomfort, so be prepared.

    After Treatment

After you receive the Graston method, you may feel bruised or sore. If you do have any soreness, you can apply ice for up to twenty minutes in order to alleviate the discomfort. Stretching is also recommended in combination to the Graston method. This helps to rehabilitate the injured area and heal the tissues. Once you go through the follow up treatments, it will start to get better. In fact, you may start to increase your range of motion and pain should be reduced.
