Active Release Technique (ART)
A particular type of physical therapy muscle work designed to release both tight muscles and tightness or adhesions in the connective tissue surrounding muscles and joints. Tension is applied in a specific location in the muscle and direction while the patient is actively moving the joint through the range of motion or often combined with flexion-distraction while patient is lying down.
