Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment for numerous health conditions. It has been practiced for over five thousand years in China and continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of today’s health concerns. The World Health Organization has compiled a list of conditions based on scientific research that can be effectively treated with acupuncture, including:
- Pain – often decreased in the very first visit
- Digestive complaints
- Low energy
- Sleep disturbances
- High stress
- Mood disorders (depression, anxiety)
- Hormonal imbalances
We use a variety of treatment methods:
Very small, single-use, sterilized needles are inserted into acupuncture and trigger points all over the body that help the body heal itself, balance the body’s energy, and release pain-relieving and pleasure-inducing neurotransmitters and hormones. There is little to no discomfort felt upon the insertion of needles. In fact, 10 acupuncture needles can fit in the hole of needles used to give shots.
A small current of electricity is sent between needles to help the muscles and fascia release more quickly and easily, providing faster relief of pain, inflammation, and immobility for body injuries.
Moxibustion is the therapeutic burning of mugwort, an herb used in Chinese medicine to open the muscles and energy channels, relieve pain and inflammation, stop bleeding, and even calming the fetus in pregnant women. Moxibustion is applied with different techniques and is very relaxing and pleasurable due to the gentle heat sensations.
Glass cups are suctioned to the skin with heat, providing the same effects of a deep tissue massage. It relaxes the muscles, draws toxins out of the body, can break up scar tissue, and can relieve colds more quickly.
Chinese massage and bodywork techniques work with the muscles and energy channels to realign to the muscles and fascia in ways that promote health, mobility, strength, and flexibility.
